From AP/CNN:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Lesbians’ brains react differently to sex hormones than those of heterosexual women.
An earlier study of gay men also showed their brain response was different from straight men — an even stronger difference than has now been found in lesbians.
Lesbians’ brains reacted somewhat, though not completely, like those of heterosexual men, a team of Swedish researchers said in Tuesday’s edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
A year ago, the same group reported findings for gay men that showed their brain response to hormones was similar to that of heterosexual women.
From Good As You:
The findings would seem to serve as even more proof that biology is at least partially responsible for one’s sexuality; for more proof, just open your eyes and actually talk to a few homosexuals.

Incite the slaughter of Muslims, imprison the homosexuals, and prosecute any religious or human-rights activists who seek to help the faggots:
That’s been the policy of Nigerian Anglican Archbishop Peter Akinola.
Akinola wins praise from U.S. evangelical Rick Warren.
So, when Warren’s wife Kay claims “repentance” for unnamed injustices and seeks inclusion in the HIV/AIDS social-service programs of Orange County, California, naturally the local experts and workers who have battled disease and prejudice for 25 years are a bit suspicious.

The battle to ban gay civil unions — and to subject all same-gender sexual partners to possible prosecution and imprisonment under sodomy laws — could be just one front in a broad battle by the political religious right to make all sex outside of marriage not only illegal, but dangerous.
Wayne Besen summarizes what’s happening on other fronts.
I’d like to add that the religious rightists have, for the time being, left a convenient sexual escape clause for themselves: Serial marriage and divorce, which appear partly responsible for the Bible Belt’s high divorce rates. Marry someone at age 18, divorce them at 21. Marry someone else at 22, divorce them at 25…

An article published today in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel repeats many of the May 6 mistakes of The Miami Herald in covering rival exgay and ex-exgay conferences in Fort Lauderdale.

From The Scotsman via Andrew Sullivan:
Believing that God created the universe in six days is a form of superstitious paganism, the Vatican astronomer Guy Consolmagno claimed yesterday.
Consolmagno says creation myths are rooted in prehistoric belief in nature gods:
“Knowledge is dangerous, but so is ignorance. That’s why science and religion need to talk to each other,” he said.
“Religion needs science to keep it away from superstition and keep it close to reality, to protect it from creationism, which at the end of the day is a kind of paganism — it’s turning God into a nature god. And science needs religion in order to have a conscience, to know that, just because something is possible, it may not be a good thing to do.”
Among these would-be paganists, presumably, are Exodus lobbyist Randy Thomas, who years ago told me and other acquaintances that he believes in a six-day creation; Focus on the Family and the Liberty Counsel, which seek to inject creationism and “intelligent design” into public-school science classes; and exgay and antigay activists who say God smites their chosen enemies through AIDS, Hurricane Katrina, and terrorist attacks.

From Pam Spaulding:
In a newsletter article reprinted at Free Republic, San Diego exgay activist James Hartline describes gay former U.S. members of the armed forces as a “radical homosexual group,” calls bisexuals “perverted,” and labels the presence of same-sex-attracted persons in the armed forces “a grave threat to national security.” Harline claims that “sexual promiscuity” and AIDS are rising among same-sex-attracted persons, but offers no documentation.
Spaulding hosts a lengthy excerpt from Hartline’s newsletter and from Free Republic’s commenters.

Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is a logical choice of venue for the exgay Love Won Out roadshow: the church and its authoritarian leader, D. James Kennedy, support the enforcement of sodomy laws that would imprison the nation’s homosexuals.
Naturally, given the choice between the imprisonment of same-sex-attracted men and women who (with few exceptions) can’t change, and the pretense of ill-defined “change” offered by roadshows such as Love Won Out, rational individuals might choose so-called “change.”
That is the hope of LWO hosts Focus on the Family and Exodus International, both of which:
- support sodomy laws;
- support antigay discrimination;
- deny the reality of healthy gay relationships even as they seek to make such relationships illegal;
- suppress all sexuality outside of marriage through the abstinence-only movement
In an article published May 6, a Miami Herald headline promised to compare Love Won Out with a rival meeting titled Love Welcomes All.
Unfortunately, the ensuing news story neglected to inform readers of the explicit political positions of Focus and Exodus, and the story gave minimal attention to Love Welcomes All. Instead of comparing and fact-checking the exgay and ex-exgay claims, the Herald offers a lengthy reprint of antigay fundamentalist propaganda.

Exodus has announced workshops being held at this year’s conference. Not surprisingly there are twice as many workshops designed to prevent male-on-male sex than those helping the ladies. As expected Focus On The Family employees are leading politically oriented workshops.
Why Not Gay Marriage?: — Glenn T. Stanton
Responding with Intelligence and Compassion
Many are engaged in the culture over same-sex marriage, but few are engaging it intelligently and compassionately, seeking both to win arguments and the hearts of people. Glenn Stanton, who debates on same-sex marriage on college campuses around the nation speaks from his experience of intelligently and winsomely discussing the issue, but also reaching out to his opponents and making real friendships.
Why We Can’t Stay Silent – Melissa Fryrear
When Jesus said, “Blessed are the righteous,” He yearned for people who would defend all that is right against all that is wrong. In addition to seeing people brought to the saving knowledge of Christ, Christians should be compelled by God’s love to defend the biblical worldview and engage the culture. This session offers an historical view of the Church’s influence in the culture and exhorts Christians not to be silent but to boldly defend the tenants of Christianity in cultural, educational, and policy arenas.
Perhaps at this year’s conference Ms. Fryrear will meet a homosexual who has not been molested. If any XGW readers who have not been molested attend the conference please identify yourself to Ms. Fryrear.
The award for best workshop title goes to Randy Thomas. I’ve got no clue what it’s about but it’s got to be good:

What’s Wrong With Masturbation? – Russell Willingham
We’ve all wondered about Masturbation. Is it healthy self-expression or a bondage? What does the Bible say and not say about it? In this workshop we will explore these questions and look at ways to deal with this challenging issue.

Shawn O’Donnell, whose picture was included for a long time on the home webpage of Exodus International, spoke at the University Christian Ministry at Northwestern University.
As reported by the student newspaper, O’Donnell shared with the students how he entered Love in Action to try and overcome his same sex attraction and how he finally found freedom in accepting himself the way God made him to be.
But O’Donnell said he felt sad when he realized he was still gay even though he had tried to suppress it.
“I didn’t feel any better.’ he said. “I actually felt worse because if anybody had tried not to be (gay), it was me.”
O’Donnell left the ministry when he realized he was still gay, he said.
“After a while I thought, ‘This isn’t working,’” he said. “I was still having these feelings and still having these thoughts.”
O’Donnell’s outreach to these student is admirable and helps counter untruthful claims that some in the ex-gay ministries have made. And his message was taken to heart at NU. As Elena Tsinikas, a peer minister at UCM, said:
“I think there needs to be more than one view of the Church,” the SESP senior said. “People think Christians will harm GLBT people, but there are churches out there who love and accept people.”
