Gay Escort: Rekers Is Homosexual

May 6th, 2010

The gay escort at the center of the George Rekers scandal says Rekers paid him for nude massages.

On Tuesday, the Miami New Times reported that Dr George Rekers, a long-time anti-gay, ex-gay Religious Right activist and scholar, had taken a vacation with a 20-year-old male prostitute he had met through the sexually explicit website Rentboy.com.

Rekers first claimed “Lucien” was a travel assistant, employed to help him lifting luggage, following recent back surgery. He later added the incredulous story that he was evangelizing Lucien in an attempt to persuade him against homosexuality.

Lucien said there was no sex between them, but he has now admitted there was sexual contact, and told Miami New Times that Rekers paid him for daily body rubs during the European vacation:

Rekers allegedly named his favorite maneuver the “long stroke” – a complicated caress “across his penis, thigh … and his anus over the butt cheeks,” as the escort puts it. “Rekers liked to be rubbed down there,” he says.

Dr George Rekers was co-founder of the Family Research Council, a board member of NARTH, and Distinguished Professor Emeritus Professor at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. The latter disassociated itself from Rekers today by removing his profile from its website. Expect other organizations to follow suit.

Meanwhile, Exodus International President Alan Chambers has written about the situation, calling out the “gay community” for throwing stones at Rekers and for failing to extend any “compassion or care” to Lucien, whom he invites to call Exodus.

Sure, the coverage has been tacky at times, and frankly, I didn’t see a lot of concern for Lucien in some of the reports I read. But Alan’s own attempt to use Lucien as an opportunity to smear gays for offering “counterfeit” community, promote Exodus and its message, and exalt the virtues of his own compassion is hardly much classier – and very transparent.

    Well in fairness, Lucien is likely not in the process of seeing his entire life flushing itself down the tubes.

    Ah yes, the Reaction Formation strikes again. Freud may have been off his rocker on some things, but he nailed this one on the head. I wonder how many more at NARTH and FRC are closet cases just out to prove to themselves that they are not “really gay.”

    At least Lucien is sure of who he is. And not just his sexual orientation – I mean his entire lifestyle. He knows he’s a paid escort. He knows he does sexual things for money.

    and on another note, he knows he is attracted to men.

    I don’t think Lucien has ANY identity issues he needs to grapple with. Sorry, Exodus.

    I’m not defending Reckers, but it bothers me that Lucien spilled the beans on his client. Not very professional.

    And self-righteously, Alan Chambers has taken this opportunity to claimed our lives and loves are counterfeit:

    I cannot understand the gay communities’ lack of regard for this 20 year-old boy who has been prostituting himself to anyone who “asks” and “pays”. While the gay community seems hell-bent on forcing everyone to be tolerant of their “just like everyone else” lives they seem completely incapable of showing Jo-Vanni Roman any compassion or care. This kid is so desperate for love or money or care that he stoops to dehumanize himself with anyone who can afford to use and abuse him.
    .
    Well, it’s time for the Church to rise up and show that the counterfeit really isn’t the best kind of community.

    It bothers me that Rekers spent most of his life hurting innocent people, professionally. Somehow being a tattletale seems like a small price to pay to stop a man from destroying any more families.

    Seriously??? So, how much damage does a guy have to do before it becomes ok in your eyes that someone might break a code of ethics to expose his evil?

    I’ve always wondered how Alan thinks “the lie will set you free” when it’s the other way around.
    IN any case this thing w Rekers, “the truth will set you free” looks more like, the truth will set US free. For that I truly thank George. He is a man for our own similar cause. No matter how consciously unaware he may be of his trek for gay civil rights, his unconscious has truly helped gay civil rights immeasurably.
    We need more people willing to fall on the sword of hypocrisy like him. Thanks again George, for making our lives more tolerable and our trek for civil justice easier to navigate. And your boy toy? Pretty damn cute. Where you two going next?

    PS An while we’re at it George, since you are doing SUCH a GREAT job of saying ‘this just ain’t so’ which is all part of the Ted Haggard Reality Hour game, might we have a look at your computer?

    Prostitutes have codes of ethics that you are concerned are not being honored. Worry about the boy whose life is being destroyed and a fascist old man that wants to bugger boys but doesn’t’ want anyone else to.

    Maek F,

    What code of ethics???

    Prostitutes get beaten up, raped, and occaisionally murdered by their johns. They are often coerced into the work by pimps that beat, exploit and force them to work as slaves. The money they make is not their own often times. They don’t go to the authorities for protection because they fear arrest.

    They are usually young (in fact many are children). If they had better options they would usually not be doing this work. They don’t go to a professional school that teaches them about all their repsonsibilities, duties and rights as a prostitute.

    This ethical code for prostitutes that you keep harping on is a farce and an insult to all prostitutes who are victomied in one way or another through the “profession”

    What bothers me is that Rekers is a hypocrite and a liar.

    @Lynn David
    Yes, Alan, Jo-Vanni Roman and other sex workers do demand some care and compassion – their profession should be legalized, regulated, and protected. But it is sanctimonious [expletive] such as you who pontificate about the “immorality” of sex workers that create the problems for them.

    @Jeff
    If Monica Lewinsky is any guide, I don’t think Jo-Vanni Roman has anything to be worried about.

    Who wins a contest of morality between a whore and a hypocrite?
