Rachel Maddow Covers Anti-Homosexuality Bill

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow has begun continuing coverage of the Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Bill. On Wednesday evening’s show she read responses from the three Americans who comprised the conference in Kampala earlier this year which served as a starting point for the legislation.

While Exodus did finally take a stand of sorts against the bill, tonight’s broadcast was the first occasion we know of where Richard Cohen or his organization (International Healing Foundation) have responded at all. While XGW and others contacted him directly for comment long ago, Cohen claimed to Maddow that he was unaware of the legislation in question. Scott Livey also responded with words one might expect from the author of the Pink Swastika.

Andrew Marin was scheduled for the show, but scheduling prevented his appearance. He is slated for another time. Maddow vows to continue coverage tomorrow.

Hat Tip: Warren Throckmorton

    Some gems.

Mr. Schmierer has said the he is opposed to the kill-the-gays legislation, and he says that he’s signed onto a letter to Uganda’s president, against it.

I’m sure his signature will be heard ‘round the world.

The group with which Mr. [Caleb Lee] Brundidge is associated, first, denied knowing anything about the bill’s existence, and asked us for a copy of it.

I’m just going to leave that one as is.

This one, however, deserves full coverage:

Then there’s the last one, Mr. Scott Lively, the Pink Swastika guy. He told Lifesite news.com that the law is too harsh, but, quoting, “Dr. Lively explained that the impetus for the bill was “a lot of external interference from European and American gay activists attempting to do in Uganda what they’ve done around the world – homosexualize that society.” One of their main concerns, explained Mr. Lively, “are the many male homosexuals coming in to the country and abusing boys who are on the streets.”

So…he’s saying the law is “too harsh” on child molesters?

It’s nice to know Uganda’s getting their information on homosexuality from a Holocaust denier. Good grief.

We can know one thing for certain — Don Schmierer’s name was NOT on that letter of 16 November 2009. As posted by Exodus, and Throckmorton and reported here and everywhere else.

Don Schmierer’s name has suddenly appeared.

No mention, of course, from Exodus about another of their devious site edits.

(And no mention, of course, why an Exodus Board member’s own site continues to link to Cohen’s IHF and to PFOX and to NARTH etc.)

(sorry, got cut off after submitting to check the format)

I had waited a day to see if they corrected themselves… but, nope. It’s all on the informal blog that keeps getting edited to oblivion, but a bald-faced deception on the Exodus site.

Apart from adding Schmeirer’s name to a letter signed by other people… like, one is entitled to just do that, you know… Exodus now has a few different versions doing the rounds.
I have asked Warren Throckmorton, guessing his approval wasn’t sought, and I’ll be interested to know if he thinks today’s version of the letter is (in the words of internationally reknown contortionist The Amazing Randy):

“The text of the letter (below) is the exact same,
we have just added Don’s name.”

Exact same. But not. In the most critical of ways.

Next thing, Scott Lively will sign on. And Martin Ssempa. Problem solved.

What sort of person would you have to be to trust Exodus? Or work for them?

The type prepared to kneel down and pick up Don Schmeirer’s fallen pants, I guess.

Wow, it’s nice to have a lesbian in a position of influence! Now I get a taste of how stright people feel.
