I'm from the Seksualiti Merdeka facebook group. I really did want to go and would have but due to the timing of it ending late at night, I couldn't because of my lack of transport.. could get there by komuter, but taking a midnight cab alone to get back was not really something I was willing to do, it really wasn't safe. Sorry.

Thanks for the perspective, Yuki. I don't recall any Malaysians being included in the list my event used (our list was 116 people).

I encourage you to stay positive and not worry about numbers. If it is meaningful for just a 2 or 3 people, I believe it's worth it. I don't doubt some transpeople didn't come because of laziness or apathy, but there are extentuating circumstances that we cannot know. I didn't go last year due to personal issues; this year the Chicago event couldn't have happened without my involvement (maybe).

Btw, and I don't want to create unnecessary strife over so little a thing, but the use of "transgenders" really irks me because "trans" is a adjective and because the only people I hear use that terminology are you and gender defender folk. "Transgender people," "transpeople" or "trans folk" are much easier on the ears. That's my opinion.

How disappointing that some folk were so disrespectful at the memorial.

I appreciate this report, Yuki. Very informative. Cheers.
