Thanks Dave and Virginia. For me, his memory lives on when I stand up for bullying and teach others to do the same. If I remain silent, his death is as much my fault as anyone else.

Hello Shawn,

I just came across this site while Googling Glatze (a fundie said he was ex-gay activists). Glatze's remark about bullying is hurtful -- and I am also sorry for your brother. My thoughts are with you.

I don't know what this Glatze person is thinking, probably like any other fundies I encounter, smooth talking but incoherent and evasive if you nail him.

Regan, in my experience, Glatze is second to none in his a) desire for attention (private, public, friend or foe) and b) ability to move from one personality and temperament to another (or perhaps inability not to?). Debate with him is truly useless and I would suggest you not waste your time.

Shawn, I can't fully express my sorrow for your brother, you and your family. If that is something you ever wish to share, I would be more than willing to listen -- privately or publicly. Bullies obviously pick many targets, not just GLBTs. The evil in allowing such behavior unchecked, and the pain and abuse it causes, is just not acceptable.

Glatze has responded to my personal emails, or posts and he seemed appreciative.
However, would I be making too much of a reach to wonder if Glatze owned a gun....or wants to?

He's exactly the sort of person one who knows how to read these things, might consider.

  Just a thought.

But....the boy ain't right....

Anybody swings THAT far like Tarzan from one thing to another...can't be.

And Shawn Harrison...my heart goes out to you and your family for your loss. You know there are very brave and committed people out there who are working hard to address and prevent more heartbreak like yours and your brother's.

Lynn David
Yeah, I figured I'd spelled it wrong, my computer is on the fritz and I wanted to get the posting up before it shut down on me, so I didn't worry about the spelling to much. I knew there were other Native American tribes that were matriarchies, but one of my professors is an expert on the Tlingit, so I learned alot about them in my senior seminar class.
Thanks for the info though! I always love learning new things.

I just love how people like to talk about "tradition" and "normal" when both change so rapidly, and depend on what society and/or culture you are in at the time.

On the bully comment, I was bullied, it made me try to start a GSA in my high school (I was told that it would put other students at risk after I left school, because the homophobes would need another target, and though they wouldn't physically attack me, they might attack others.) The lesson they taught me is that no one deserved to be treated that way. So, if bullies are there to teach you a lesson then I'd be ignoring that lesson by letting others get bullied without trying to do something about it (like supporting legislation, and school rules that enforce stricter rules on bully's or anti-bullying classroom materials)
