That can’t be right. It refers to a “Creator,” and, as we all know, the founders were all devout Christians intending to form a Christian theocracy, and Christianity and homosexuality are wholly incompatible. Cease your demonic lies, heathen!

If they were devout to the core Christians, I would think they would have used the term Christian God rather than the word Creator. If they had used the Christian term, the human race would be in duck soup, and probably destroyed by now.

I believe, considering the population of the day, that many were Christian, still others were Deists and I imagine a few atheists. Even the Christians probably had significant differences due to culture, time and place — certainly I have seen nothing to indicate they were anything like the value voter, fundamentalist, adherents to the American Religion we see today. That bizarre ternary was born late in the last century.

The main thing is that, whatever their beliefs, they produced a Declaration that spoke to everyone, not just a slice (excepting their inability to successfully wrestle with the scourge of slavery, leaving it to be done 80 years or so later.

Note: I say this as a Christian, I don’t want to turn this into a faith-bashing session. But I feel responsible to note the issues in my own, and we all (in this country certainly) have a right to observe the nature of those who brought the US into existence.

Fundamentalists started c1900 but they had equivalents in the Puritans. Zealotry has been around since before humans learned to pick up sticks.

Jefferson was deist, so “Creator” was apt but he uses “God” elsewhere.
