New Book Puts a Focus on Antigay Activist Robert Knight

May 24th, 2007

Activist Alvin McEwen has published an excerpt from his upcoming book, Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters: Exposing the Lies of the Anti-Gay Industry.

In the excerpt, McEwen recalls an encounter with Robert Knight, director of the antigay office at the social-conservative Media Research Center.

I’m blogging about this one on both my Blogspot and MySpace–it deserves a reading. Thank you for the heads-up! It *is* an industry, isn’t it? How sad that so many people can make their living at others’ expense.

I’m certain that the author has put in a great deal of time and research bringing us this expose.

However, based solely on the exerpt, I suspect that the intent may be more to demonize those who disagree with us rather than to shine light. Maybe I’m wrong. I hope so.

    a very valid question, tim.

My book will not demonize the opposition, but expose the lies and chicanery behind their claims and studies. I don’t attack people.

The excerpt was merely an introduction and my impression of Robert Knight. I got into detail as to his performance at the debate and the bad study from FRC he gave me after the debate in chapter one.

I apologize for my ignorance (well…not really) but nevertheless: it would be nice to embellish this thread a bit more on: Who is Robert Knight?

And maybe a little more information? Like: what the book jacket will have on it. (Synopsis and vita about the Author, etc.)

Just a suggestion. There’s not even a mention on wikipedia about Mr. Knight.

This might shed some light on Knight and his views:

Looks like Knight supports Cameron’s views: “A study of more than 6,400 obituaries in homosexual publications reveals that homosexuals typically have far shorter life spans than the general population.”
Robert Knight, Family Research Council, testifying at ENDA Hearings, July 29, 1994 – committee on Labor and Human Resources, US Senate.

(The source for this “research” is the discredited Dr. Paul Cameron — )http://www.exgaywatch.com/wp/2007/05/paul-camerons-world/.

To answer cowboy’s question, all of the information he inquired about is included in the link Tim put out.

Robert Knight – Before he left for the Media Research Center, Knight was a spokesman for Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America. Amongst other distortions, he freely used Cameron’s discredited work in speeches and studies.

My excerpt is from the introduction. I talk about attending a debate between him and Elizabeth Birch. I was able to ask Knight directly after the debate about his using Cameron’s work.

Yes, Knight does support Cameron’s views.

My gosh Jim, when did that list get so long?! That needs more exposure somehow.

I totally agree about that one.

    Hi Jim,

You can add Schowengerdt’s piece in the (nauseaus) Regent University section.

More significantly, you may add Mark A. Yarhourse : for the following reason.

“The only current flawless study shows that there is still an open question as to whether gay and lesbian parenting is associated with the historically expected effects of significantly higher incidences of sexual abuse, childhood gender dissatisfaction, and adolescent as well as adult homosexual-orientation development and behavior.”

The quote’s from section V, a glowing review of Reckers screed, and identifying what exactly Yarhouse’s thinks is “Fairness in discussing homosexuality” when it comes to parenting by gay men and women.

A flawless study. Wow. I haven’t encountered many that could be considered that way. Any guesses about who is the author of what Yarhouse thinks is a flawless study???

    (Don’t strain yourself thinking Jim…)

As Yarhouse so appropriately states: If Stanford will not publish them, Regent will gladly do so.

Indeed. And you won’t hear a voice raised in argument about that particular fact!
