XGW Original Video: “Does Exodus Sanction Forcing People Into ‘Ex-gay’ Programs?”

November 19th, 2006

Randy Thomas (membership director for Exodus International, the largest “ex-gay” group in the country) was interviewed recently on the Adam Carolla radio show and claimed nobody is ever forced to attend an “ex-gay” program against their will. This video examines Randy’s claim and Exodus’ track record on the matter.

I thank Peterson Toscano (a survivor of the Love In Action “ex-gay” program) for bringing this issue to my attention on his blog last week. Peterson provided a great deal of inspiration and assistance in creating this video.

Fantastic! I’ve pinched a copy for my own Blog. With a link back here of course…

Yes (grin) and Daniel too. I hope he does more of this kind of thing.

My God…I’d never heard Randy Thomas’ voice before. My gaydar is dense as a brick and it got through to me. It was like hearing Paul Cameron speak for the first time.

This just shows how far you people will go to defame and spread your own lies. For years the gay movement has been forcing their propoganda on young people in our schools and on TV and crying censorship when someone tried to stop it. Now the that things are turning on you and you put out this kind of crap to try to justify the choice you have made. And yes it is definitely a choice and our children need to know that.

Moderator Action: The person posting as “Freedom Found” has been posting until now as “Dennis,” a commenter who has behaved quite poorly and should really have been dealt with before now.  However, changing identities, especially to avoid accountability for one’s actions, is not tolerated for obvious reasons.

Dennis (aka Freedom Found), who appears to be associated with a Sexual Addition program in Canada, is no longer welcome to post here.  And wherever you decide to post next, addressing other commenters as “you people” is probably not the best way to become a respected part of the debate.

Non sequitir troll alert! I think Freedom Found is a lost troll because his comment makes no sense in this context. Am I missing something? Who’s being defamed here? Who’s lying about what?

Hmmm…I seem to recall choosing what clothes to wear this morning, what to eat for dinner, and choosing what faith I should profess. But I don’t recall choosing my sexual orientation.

Freedom Found, what I find offensive with groups like Exodus, Love Won Out, and other ex-gay ministries is that they tell those that are struggling with SSA is that only God can love them if they turn straight. In other words, suppress their natural SSA and live the lie of “hetrosexuality” that can neither fool God or themselves in the long run.

Suppression of SSA is not “true” change.

Perhaps now that you have made your speech you could point out what about that video is a lie, aside from possibly what Randy Thomas said. Your position seems a tad weak to me.

Logic is the process of drawing a conclusion from one or more premises. A statement of fact, by itself, is neither logical or illogical (although it can be true or false). When one can provide reliable documentation for one’s assertions of fact, then we can draw the conclution a fact is true.

Dan pointed out the Exodus International’s Randy Thomas made a statement of fact that wasn’t consistant with other statements, provided documentation of the other statments, and therfore showed why Randy Thomas’s statement wasn’t “true.”

When one uses the very words of one’s opponents to show why a statement isn’t true in all cases, then I don’t see how pointing that out equates to…

…show[ing] how far you people will go to defame and spread your own lies.

Using “true” facts to develop a logical argument is, by definition, not lying.

Excellent video, it bundles all the pertinent information regarding this issue into a short, easily digestible mini-commentary that is easy to share with anyone who has a couple minutes of time on their hands. Thank you…

Oh, and M.J. minor side-note.. not all nonsequiturs are trolls ;-p Hehe
