Dobson: “Marriage Is Under Vicious Attack…From The Forces Of Hell”

May 30th, 2006 Daniel Gonzales 19 comments

Today’s Focus on the Family broadcast was the first in a series designed to whip up hysteria over gay marriage and try an convince black people Focus cares about a variety of issues impacting their families how they vote on gay marriage. Of course that means it’s time for Focus to trot out the black pastors again. Before putting his guests on Dobson can’t help but blab away the first half of the program himself. Here are a couple of highlights:

Cos as you all very well know marriage is under vicious attack, now I think from the forces of hell itself. Now it’s either going to continue to decline, and as I told you in my office a few minutes ago, I believe with that destruction of marriage will come the decline of western civilization itself.

[snip]

We’re really in a crisis point, right now, right now… Where the family is either going to survive or it’s going to fall apart and it will happen in the next few years.

So in summary; Children rolling eggs The forces of hell (pictured below) are coming to get you and we need to pass the FMA right now or western civilization is going to collapse. Don’t wait! Call now! Operators are standing by!

P.S. Don’t forget last year Alan Chambers said Satan is using gay people to further his agenda to “destroy the kingdom of God.” The Exodus newsletter can be such a hoot, I suggest you get on their mailing list since they won’t send it to me for some reason.

Audio: Ex-Lesbian Janet Boynes Gives Questionable Statistics

May 29th, 2006 Daniel Gonzales 19 comments

In a podcast interview with Kim Jeffries, ex-lesbian Janet Boynes cites makes up some interesting statistics:

Jeffries: I understand that’s not uncommon that there has been a sexual assault or rape or some kind of abuse in the past of many women who enter into a lesbian lifestyle.

Boynes: From what I know I believe there’s 80% of women, between 80 and 85% of women that are struggling with homosexuality were either raped by someone they knew or somebody outside of that but normally there’s some type of rape or some kind of molestation in our past.

Villain in X-Men 3 Parallels Reparative-Therapy Movement Founder

May 29th, 2006 Daniel Gonzales 14 comments

I saw X-Men 3 at the Hollywood & Highland Chinese today and noticed some things I didn’t get from the previews…

x-men1.jpg

Charles Socarides, founder of NARTH, and his gay son Warren Worthington II, founder of Worthington Industries, and his mutant son.

Read more about Charles Socarides.

x-men2.jpg

Announcing a cure has been developed which offers people “freedom from homosexuality” “freedom from their mutations.”

Yes, they actually said “freedom from” in the movie. My jaw near well dropped. Exgay groups love to proclaim “freedom from homosexuality” to the point of putting it on the Exodus logo.

Creepy ‘Christian’ Website: Parody Or Hate?

May 29th, 2006 Mike Airhart 13 comments

When I originally wrote this post, I assumed that Jesus Loves Everything was a hate site — hate gays, hate China, hate freedom for anyone deemed insufficiently holier-than-thou.

But then Jody at Naked Writing pointed out to me that some of the site’s articles are a bit over-the-top — not outlandish enough to be funny, in my opinion, but edgy enough to generate unease among readers.

Does the site’s content reflect good parody, unfunny comedy, or serious hatred? And if it’s hatred, then hatred of what — fundamentalists or non-fundamentalists? You decide. Here’s what I originally said about JLE…

True Prophet Vs. Servant to Worldly Powers

May 29th, 2006 Mike Airhart Comments off

Feminary is a “socially liberal theologically orthodox inclusive tolerant feminist Episcopalian (who) goes to one of the world’s top evangelical seminaries.”

Feminary’s preaching class recently viewed a DVD about Peter Storey, Methodist Archbishop of South Africa and chaplain to Nelson Mandela in prison. Here’s an excerpt from notes taken during class:

Some of the religious groupings in this country are actually serving the powerful. If they make political statements that align with the powerful they are chaplains to power, not prophets. If there’s one definition of a prophet that cannot be challenged, it is that a prophet never serves the powerful.

Definition of a Prophet:

  • Advocacy on behalf of God’s little people.
  • Courage to speak truth to power.
  • The prophet always looks to see who are God’s little ones NOW. That group can change – when new people take power, the prophet switches sides. The prophet is always on the side of the weak, poor, marginalized.
  • Whose image is on the coin? Whose image is on a human being? God’s. Do not let Caesar mess with people whose image is of the living God.
  • The prophet always stands with the people made in God’s image who are being treated as if they belonged to Caesar.

SNL’s ‘Heteroy’ Changed Homosexuals Into Bible-Thumpers

May 28th, 2006 Mike Airhart 2 comments

In October 1998, Saturday Night Live‘s animated TV Funhouse skit invented an exgay superhero. Watch the video:

Heteroy has real-world counterparts: LiveJournal blogger Keith recently discovered Bibleman while standing in line at the register at Half Price Books.

Bibleman is available as a video series and in a set of nifty action figures. These supposedly Christian heroes use light sabers and other weaponry to kill atheists and other presumed non-believers.

Hat tip for Heteroy: Locusts and Honey. Video posted to YouTube by subzero2o.

LA Times: ‘Ex-Gays’ Seek a Say in Schools

May 28th, 2006 Mike Airhart 6 comments

The Los Angeles Times reports that antigay Christians and Jews are challenging and sometimes suing school districts: If proponents of tolerance and opponents of bullying are permitted classroom time, then — so the story goes — proponents of bigotry and reparative therapy must be given equal time.

The article covers a lot of territory; here’s a point-by-point summary:

Blogger Brian Rainey is pursuing a Master of Divinity degree at Harvard Divinity School. He is currently focusing in Hebrew Bible and Political Theology. He self-identifies as a Christian.
