Jewish Religion supporting Marriage for Gays and Lesbians
When I read anything about those suggesting or demanding that they use their faith to change their sexual and romantic orientation because religion does not validate homosexuality, I always point out that, being Jewish, that is not true for me.
In Michigan we are about to have a proposal voted on to ban marriage for gays. We already have DOMA which bans gay marriage and yet we are one of many states to have proposal two which would be a state constitutional ammendment. I am always amazed when people use religion against gays. Being a Jew, I know that Reform Judaism and Reconstructionist Judaism states marriage for gays and lesbians is valid.

The Straight Dope message board debates antigay activists’ claim that pedophilia is linked somehow to homosexuality.
In linking to XGW’s article on the subject by Joe Kort, two discussion participants describe Ex-Gay Watch as “this not too gay friendly site” and an “Ex-Gay group.”
I find that amusing. Nevertheless, I welcome feedback from people who believe this site is antigay.
Ex-gays have their own meet-up section for support and companionship at ex-gay.meetup.com.
No need to visit right now — no one has joined.
The discussion here about the false link between homosexuality and pedophilia drifted into a debate about how different people define “gay,” “homosexual,” and “heterosexual.”
I consider the first two words synonymous with primary or exclusive same-sex attraction, but obviously there is disagreement. But how do you define the words?
I welcome further discussion here about how we define and delineate the language of sexual orientation and behavior.
According to The Oklahoman, Focus on the Family chairman James Dobson last week accused Oklahoma Congressman and U.S. Senate candidate Brad Carson of lying. The reporter does not include the charge in quotation marks, so it’s unclear whether Dobson used the "L" word:
"He may very well be a nice man, and I’m not attacking his personhood, but there’s a gap between who he says he is and what he does," Dobson said, criticizing Carson for votes on partial-birth abortion and in support of same-sex marriage.
But it appears to be Dobson who is misinforming his audience.

Wayne Besen’s commented last week on the furor over John Kerry mentioning Mary Cheney’s sexual orientation — a public disclosure that was based on her history as a gay advocate at Coors. And PFOX issued a press release criticizing Kerry. XGW mentioned both these events.
However, PFOX also wrote an impolite open letter — not to Mary Cheney, but to the Vice President and his wife. (Apparently, lesbian daughters are to be talked about, not talked with.)

Oct. 21, 2004, on the PFOX Yahoo group (closed to non-members, and not archived):
“No one is gay to begin with. We are all born heterosexual. Gays are heterosexuals with homosexual problems, and some overcome their problems.”
— Estella Salvatierrez, PFOX
Here are some excerpts from the October 2004 issue of the Exodus newsletter. Unfortunately, Exodus does not make its newsletter available online. Boldface print was bold in the original.

In reporting on the scientific debate over sexual orientation — what causes it, can it be changed — Cleveland’s Plain Dealer newspaper interviews an Ohio exgay ministry leader, a pro-exgay counselor, gay author/activist Wayne Besen, and two researchers.
The article’s overview of the debate is balanced, but a bit shallow and plagued by misspellings (Dean Hamer, Joseph Nicolosi). In the interest of providing some missing context, I present a profile of the exgay ministry, Prodigal Ministries of Cincinnati.
